Park24 Group’s CSR Activities for the Environment and Community Awareness Activities
Park24 Group's CSR
Park24 Group will contribute to the environment and communities based on its vision of people-friendly communities that are also comfortable and convenient for cars and a harmony of people and cars.
Activities for the Environment and Communities
Park24 Group focuses its activities on reducing its ecological footprint and coexisting with communities. We base this on our vision of people-friendly communities that are also comfortable and convenient for drivers.
Providing people-friendly parking facilities
Establishing "Heart Spaces"
We have established parking spaces where women and the elderly are given priority access to spaces that are larger than average and so are easiest for drivers to use.
So that customers can use Times parking facilities with peace of mind, we have installed AED automated external defibrillators. (Times Station Ikebukuro)
Providing services to make driving more comfortable
Providing information on availability
We provide information on the location of Times parking facilities and vacant spaces through the Web, mobile phones, and car navigation systems. This attenuates traffic congestion caused by vehicles driving about in search of a parking space.
Pushing forward with Park-and-Ride*2
When drivers hold up their traffic-system IC cards, such as Suica*3 and PASMO*4, to payment machines, reduced parking fees will apply in accordance with their train-use history. The service seamlessly links public transportation systems and areas around stations.
Promoting Park & Charge
We have been providing the Park & Charge service since 1998 to facilitate the spread of electric vehicles. Since drivers can charge their batteries in Times parking while underway, they can extend mileage without anxiety.
Promoting the dissemination of electric vehicles
We have commenced a demonstration experiment to adopt electric vehicles as vehicles for rent-a-car and car-sharing, participating in local government initiatives to encourage the use of electric vehicles.
Expanding car sharing
We are expanding car sharing throughout Japan to increase vehicle availability. Car sharing will curb the excessive use of vehicles and help mitigate environmental problems.
Creating environment-friendly communities by providing parking facilities
Expanding Times parking
By expanding Times parking, we help reduce roadside parking, which will in turn reduce environmental pollution and traffic accidents.
Introducing LED illumination
The installation of LED illumination has been standardized in Times parking.
Other activities for society
Donations to the Foundation for Orphans from Automobile Accidents
We convert points chosen by customers and part of the lapsed points in the Times Club membership point incentive program provided by Park24 Group and donate them with part of the amount paid by Times Business Cards, cashless settlement cards exclusively for companies, on August 9 (Parking Day) every year.
Encouraging drivers to stop idling
Park24 Group encourages drivers to stop idling within parking facilities.
- *1 Automated external defibrillator (AED): An AED is medical equipment certified under the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law. It automatically surveys the cardiac rhythm of the patient, determines whether an irregular cardiac rhythm requires defibrillation and gives specific instructions when defibrillation is necessary.
- *2 Park-and-Ride: Drivers park their cars at parking facilities near stations and use public transportation systems such as trains, helping to mitigate congestion in areas where traffic is concentrated and improve the environment.
- *3 Suica: Registered trade name of East Japan Railway Company
- *4 PASMO: Registered trade name of Pasmo Corp.
"We would like people to think about the social problems caused by roadside parking for at least one day a year." Based on this desire, Park24 Group registered August 9 as Parking Day in 1998. If drivers are aware of the day, and if their awareness of roadside parking increases, we believe roadside parking will be reduced, which will in turn mitigate congestion and reduce the number of traffic accidents. We are thus carrying out awareness-building activities through our website and e-mail newsletters to Times Club members.
Creating a Society Free of Roadside Parking
Roadside parking today
Although the incidence of roadside parking is said to be decreasing with each year, the number of cars that temporarily parked roadside in the two major metropolitan areas of Tokyo and Osaka still exceed 160,000 at any one time. Illegally parked cars account for about 80% of this number. Illegally parked vehicles create environmental issues and cause traffic accidents.
Implications for the environment
Roadside parking slows traffic and causes congestion, reducing traffic capacity by up to 40%. Additional gas emissions lead to environmental pollution and global warming as well as reduced mileage.
Implications for traffic accidents
Roadside parking causes collisions and accidents involving pedestrians whose views of oncoming traffic are blocked by the parked vehicles. Vehicles parked roadside also hinder emergency vehicles.
